On Tuesday, 12/4/1438 AH corresponding to 10/1/2017, HE the Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights Dr. Mufleh Rabiean Al-Qahtani has received the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Mr.Philip Alston accompanied by the Senior Advisor to the Special Rapporteur Mr. Christian Van Veen , and the Consultant of the High Commissioner for Human Rights as well as Ms. Janko Tdake , Administrative concerned with human rights. At the beginning of the meeting, HE the chairman of the Society has given the delegation a brief explanation regarding the Society’s activities and its contribution in spreading the human rights culture as well as the human rights’ remarkable progress in the Kingdom and the efforts exerted for its enhancement.

In addition, they have talked about the concept of poverty and means of its confrontation as well as the Saudi laws which aim to help the least income groups in the Kingdom.  They have discussed also the conditions of the labor that do not return to their country at the end of their contracts with employers and its effect on the system of work and residence in the Kingdom. They have also talked about the remarkable progress of human rights in the Kingdom including the women entrance to the Shoura Council and allowing her to participate in the municipal elections as well as supporting her in the work field especially in the legal profession.

In response to what have been raised by the visiting delegation regarding the guardian of women, the Chairman of the Society has stressed that it is for the women interest and not aimed at the erosion of their rights and when there is a wrong application of it, we work to treat that and remove the causes.

They have also dealt with some other human rights issues raised by the visiting delegation and the Chairman of the Society has clarified the Society’s position from them. The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Society Mr. Khaled Al-Fakhiri and the Secretary of the Society’s Chairman Mr. Ahmed Al-Mahmoud.
