On Monday, 10/02 / 1439 AH, a delegation of members of the European Parliament has visited the National Society for Human. The delegation was received by the Chairman of the Society, Dr. Mufleh Rabiean Al Qahtani, the Secretary General of the Society, Mr. Khalid Abdul Rahman Al Fakhri,, Dr. Abdul Jalil Ali Al Seif and Secretary of the Chairman of the Society Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Mahmoud.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman has given a brief explanation on the activities of the Society and its contribution in spreading the human rights culture, its working mechanisms, the kind of the cases it receives and the Society’s effort in human rights field.

In this regard, the Chairman of the Society has pointed out that there is an interest in empowering the various segments of society, including women especially their economic and social rights. The current development in the field of women’s rights is remarkable, especially their right to work and their political participation. For more illustration, she was elected to the Shura Council and was allowed to participate in the municipal elections, as well as recently was allowed to drive.

Besides, they have discussed some of the other human rights issues, including the death penalty. The Chairman of the Society has clarified to the visiting delegation that this penalty, in the Kingdom, is based on the provisions of Al Shariah and that the final judgment is issued only after being considered by a large number of judges to ensure the achievement of justice and that the Society is keen to provide a fair trail in such cases and the state is seeking with the parents to provide amnesty to the execution of the sentence.  The delegation has also inquired about some public opinion and prisoners’ issues and the Chairman of the Society has pointed out the society’s view on these issues and the judicial mechanism that is being taken in regard to them, and the Society’s keenness of having a fair courts.

In addition, the Chairman of the Society has raised with the visiting delegation the positions of some European countries and countries regarding some issues of the region such as the Yemeni issue, the Syrian issue and the Palestinian issue and how they affect the human rights issues. They have also shed light on the emergence of some kind of hatred of Islam in Europe, and how Some European countries have enacted certain laws restricting freedom.
