The National Society for Human Rights in the Kingdom expresses its surprise and deep concern over the approval of the US Congress to pass a legislation known as: “Justice Law against Sponsors of Terrorism”, as it contains therein clear violations of fixed principles of the international law and the Charter of the United Nations. For instance, it violates the principle of sovereign immunity enjoyed by the states, which is recognized and confirmed by international laws and norms in force.

Besides, the Chairman of the Society, Dr. Mufleh Rabiean Al-Qahtani, has said in a statement, in his name and on behalf of the members of the National Society for Human Rights, that such law does not serve justice as it exceeds the sovereignty of states and is considered a dangerous precedent in the international relations as it violates the principle of state immunity from the jurisdiction of another State.

In addition, he has expressed his skepticism about the ulterior motives regarding the approval of issuing such legislation, that lacks any aims of achieving justice but it seems that political extortion is the engine for issuing such law.

The Chairman of the Society has also expressed his hope that the US President will veto the issuance of this law in order to protect the principles of international law, maintain the rules of international justice and to ensure the continuation of the international cooperation in combating terrorism at the international level. For more illustration, such law will contribute to support terrorists to commit their acts, in vexation of their government and to violate its domestic law. Moreover, if they find that there is a state will blame the government of their country on the consequences of their terrorist acts, then such act will achieve their goals and affect the international efforts in fighting terrorism.
