A delegation from the US Embassy visits the Society
On Thursday, 29/11/1437 AH, a delegation from the US Embassy in Riyadh has visited the Society headed by Deputy Head of the Political Section and Special Advisor political affairs, Mr. Iram Billy accompanied by Political Affairs officials at the US embassy, Mr. McGill Casey Boenfeld and Mr. James Ross. The delegation was welcomed by HE Chairman of the Society Dr. Mufleh Rabiean Al-Qahtani and HE the Secretary General of the Society Mr. Khaled Abdulrahman Fakhiri.
At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Chairman of the Society has given the delegation a brief explanation regarding the Society’s activities and its contribution in spreading the human rights culture as well as the human rights’ remarkable progress in the Kingdom and the efforts exerted for its enhancement. Besides, they have discussed the US government’s position regarding the human rights situation in the Kingdom and in the Middle East, including the Syrian crisis and the situation in Iraq, Yemen and the impact of such conditions on human rights. The Chairman of the Society has also pointed to the unfair attitude of some countries and international organizations regarding the situation in Yemen and its reliance on inaccurate information or data ignoring what is committed by the Huthi militias and their supporters from the violation of human rights and exploitation of children, schools and medical headquarters for military actions as well as launching missiles randomly at civilians inside the Saudi border and that such acts do not receive appropriate responses from these countries and organizations that contribute to the reduction of these violations. Besides, the visiting delegation has expressed that they understand this and that the friendship relationship between the Kingdom and US is strong and that there is a better understanding of these things. Moreover, the Chairman of the Society has said that the Saudi side was keen to abide by international humanitarian law that is why it support sthe establishment of a committee to investigate any errors that may occur during the war as well as supporting the establishment of the Yemeni National Commission to investigate human rights violations in order to respect the international standards for the protection of human rights. He has also stressed on the importance that the persons ,who are in charge of monitoring and who are relating to UN, should be neutral in transferring information and have the competence and ability to analyze what is being observed as we saw in the recent period some prejudiced reports about the Kingdom and the coalition countries that lack neutrality. Moreover, both parties have stressed on the negative role of Iran in the region which contributes to the existence of human rights violations. They have also discussed the issue of some of the prisoners in America such as the issue of Khaled Al-Dossari and Humaydan Turkish and shedding light on what faces some scholarships from the possibility of repatriation from the US airports despite having a visa. The visiting delegation has asserted that there is a great appreciation of the relationship between Saudi Arabia and America and that US officials are keen to its continuation. The Chairman of the Society has also assured on the importance of a clear position of US concerning what is seen from the flagrant violations of human rights in the region, particularly in Syria.
