The Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights, Counselor Khaled bin Abdul Rahman Al-Fakhri, has participated in the activities of the fourth high-ranking regional conference on the protection and promotion of human rights entitled  “The Impact of Crises on Human Rights: The Covid-19 Pandemic as a Model”, which coincided with the (50th) regular session of the Arab Standing Committee on Human Rights at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

The Chairman of the Society has given a speech at the conference on promoting the human rights respect in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. For more illustration, it states that “civil society institutions play an important role in following up the human rights issues in general and in crises in particular, and given the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.  From the beginning of the pandemic, the Society has followed up the human rights situation and has ensured that the individuals in the Saudi society enjoy their rights and are not affected by the effects of the pandemic.” The Society has also noted  that the state’s initiative to launch a package of decisions aimed at protecting individuals and providing them with health security in order to prevent the effects of the pandemic, taking into account that the members of the society are not affected as a result of this crisis.

Besides, the Chairman of the Society has shed light on what was monitored regarding the quality of the services provided, in addition to the efforts made to ensure the human right to health, which included all citizens and residents on the territory of the Kingdom without discrimination and without regard to the legal status of their residence in the country.  The Chairman of the Society has also explained in his speech the development that was observed in the electronic health system, which was appeared through many applications, as the digital technology has proved to be an essential part of solutions to confront this global pandemic, and which allowed government agencies in the Kingdom to continue providing public services to citizens and residents, and also contributed to the continuation of business and life in general.

In addition, the Chairman of the Society has highlighted the mechanisms that were adopted to ensure the continuation of the distance education process for all sectors of education during this pandemic, which led to the fulfillment of everyone’s right to education without being affected by the pandemic. He has also referred to the government support that was directed to the private sector, and which has greatly mitigated the effects of the pandemic on that sector. The Chairman of the Society has also referred that the state has been bearing 60% of the salaries of workers in the private sector and many other efforts that were uniquely provided by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

His Excellency the Chairman of the Society has also attended the meetings of the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights that included the report of the General Secretariat discussion concerning the measures taken to implement the recommendations issued by the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights in its 49th session, and the situation of Arab prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons and the bodies of Palestinian and Arab martyrs detained by the occupation authorities.
