On Wednesday, 11/2/1436 AH – 3/12/2014 AD, a delegation from the Australian Embassy in Riyadh has visited the Society and was welcomed by Dr. Mufleh bin Rabiean Al Qahtani, the Chairman of the Society, Mr. Khalid Al Fakhri, the Secretary General of the Society, and Mr.Ahmed Al Mahmoud, the Secretary of the Chairman. The delegation includes Mr. Neil Hawkins, the Australian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mr. David Netelfold, the Second Secretary and Ms. Susan Grace, the responsible for the Gulf and Middle East department. At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Chairman of the Society has given them a brief explanation regarding the Society’s activities and its contribution in spreading the human rights culture as well as the human rights’ remarkable progress in the Kingdom and the efforts exerted for its enhancement. In addition, they have talked about the entrance of women into the Shura Council and allowing her to participate in the municipal elections as well as talking about understanding the legal mechanism in the Kingdom, by the Western Countries, which bases on the Islamic law. Besides, they have discussed the death penalty in the Kingdom and how it bases on the Islamic texts and have shed light on the Kingdom’s progress concerning regulating the labor’s conditions and the efforts that have been made in this aspect. The ambassador has also praised the remarkable progress in the human rights’ field and has stressed on the importance of exchanging views concerning matters relating to human rights continuously as it will allow a better understanding to the concept of human rights which may vary from one culture to another.
