The Ambassador of New Zealand to the Kingdom, Mr. Hamish MacMaster, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of the Mission, Mr. Greg Lewis, have visited the National Society for Human Rights during which they met His Excellency the Chairman of the Society, Dr. Mufleh Al-Qahtani. After giving the visiting delegation a brief explanation regarding the Society’s activities, they have talked about monitoring the municipal elections in accordance to the international standards and how it represents the participation of individuals in the public life.

Besides, they have discussed many other human right issues such as the death penalty and the New Zealand attitude concerning the death penalty in Saudi Arabia. The Chairman of the Society has also asserted on the importance of respecting the States’ implementation of the provisions of its domestic law and the independence of the judicial work. In addition, Dr Al-Qahtani has criticized the Iran’s attitude concerning their interference in the Saudi judicial matter followed by the lack of respect for the Vienna Convention on the protection of diplomatic missions and their headquarters in the host countries. The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Society Mr. Khaled Abdurrahman Al-Fakhri and the Secretary of the Chairman of the Society Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mahmoud.
