On the fifteenth of May of every year, the world celebrates the International Day of Families as it was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 so as to shed light on the importance the international community attaches to families. The International Day provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families and their impacts in building societies.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights, Counselor Khaled bin Abdul-Fakhri, has stated that the family is the factory of generations and the solid foundation for the formation of human capital in the society, and that “the strong family” is the basic requirement for a strong and successful society.

In addition, His Excellency has highlighted that the Basic Law of Governance in the Kingdom has mentioned in its ninth article that “the family is the nucleus of the Saudi society.” The tenth article of the same system has also come to confirm that “The State shall aspire to promote family bonds and Arab-Islamic values. It shall take care of all individuals and provide the right conditions for the growth of their talents and skills.”

Hence and from this point of view, the Chairman of the Society has stressed that the society in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the last few years, has witnessed large and rapid transformations in the various structures of society, and the “family” was one of the entities that was most affected by these positive transformations. He has also referred to the establishment of the Family Affairs Council and its efforts to advance the family and enhance its position and role in construction and development and its work to provide the ways of “Decent Life” since being the good image that represents women, children and the elderly in the international organizations. It also contributes to the stability of the family socially and economically to be in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which has made the human being the focus of development, , and that confirms the leadership’s keenness to preserve it in strengthening the role of this Council to achieve its goals in Saudi family service.
