The Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights, Dr. Mufleh Al-Qahtani, has said in a statement to Mecca newspaper, that the Society has addressed all its eight branches to take the necessarily operational procedures for controlling the electoral process. He has stressed that the Society can fulfill the conventional surveillance through its eight branches and members in the rest areas of the Kingdom. To illustrate, he says that the monitoring process will be through taking random samples and will not include all the polling stations. Moreover, he illustrates that when the Society find that none of the associations want to participate in monitoring the elections, they applied to the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs regarding this matter and he stresses on the approval of the Society’s Executive Council to participate in monitoring the elections. He adds saying that the Society is willing to form an operation room so as to be the final downstream for all the forms concerning the monitoring process and it will be responsible for the monitoring and analysis processes in order to ensure the integrity of the elections and be sure that it is free of impurities and deficiencies. According to Dr. Al-Qahtani, monitoring the elections has come out from the Society’s faith that the citizens’ participation is important in the decision-making process in the country and at the same time he has praised the role played by the General Election Commission as the Society has touched its sincere desire for the success of this experiment. The Society has also stressed on its observers to respect the rules and regulations while performing their work and to perform their duties quietly without any personal intervention in the polling or counting processes.
