The National Society for Human Rights receives Ireland’s Ambassador to the Kingdom
On Thursday 10/03/1441 AH, corresponding to 08/11/2019, the Irish Ambassador to the Kingdom, Mr. Gerard McCoy has visited the National Society for Human Rights and has met the Chairman of the Society, Dr. Mufleh Al-Qahtani. During the meeting, the Chairman has shed light on the Society’s activities and on some other human rights issues including the efforts made to promote children’s rights in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. For instance, the Chairman has mentioned the issuance of a special system to protect the child, which contributed to finding solutions to some problems that were facing children in the past, including irregularity in education, violence, or denial of identification documents. They have also discussed the death penalty, which the Chairman of the Society explained that the Kingdom’s position on it is based on the provisions of Islamic Sharia.
Besides, the Ambassador has emphasized on the importance of exchanging views on human rights issues in general and has highlighted the Ireland’s position on some human rights issues at the international level.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Vice-President of the Society, Member of the Shura Council Dr. Saleh Al-Khathlan and the Secretary-General of the Society, Advisor Khaled Al-Fakhri.
