The National Society for Human Rights has welcomed the Council of Ministers’ approval of the personal status Law, and has considered this as an important step for controlling and regulating personal status issues, which comes as an extension of the ongoing reforms in the field of protection and promotion of human rights in the Kingdom.

For more illustration, the Chairman of the Society, Counselor Khalid bin Abdul Rahman Al-Fakhri, has stressed that this system constitutes a qualitative leap in the state’s efforts to protect human rights and promote rights in the family-related legislation system, and that will contribute to control the discretionary power of the judge, reduce the disparity in judicial rulings and eliminate the problems faced by women and the child.

Besides, the Chairman of the Society has explained that the personal status system takes into account the latest developments in social reality and its variables, as it came comprehensively in addressing the problems that the family was suffering from according to clear legal frameworks derived from the provisions of Islamic Sharia and its purposes, including regulating the age of marriage, guardianship, and inheritance issues and other important issues in matters of personal status, which contributes to maintaining the family entity and its stability as the nucleus of Saudi society and ensures the improvement of the situation of women and children to live in a safe family environment.
