The international community celebrates the International Human Rights Day aiming at preserving the dignity of every person and his right to live a decent life in which he enjoys his rights in a comprehensive way. This comes in commemoration of the day on which the General Assembly of the United Nations has adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, which includes many rights. For instance, the tenth of December 1948 was an important day in the contemporary history of human rights when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted the document which the international community has agreed on.

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, the Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights, Mr.Khaled bin Abdul Rahman Al-Fakhri, has said the following , “Whoever follows the human rights situation in the Kingdom with an objective view will find that it has witnessed a great progress in the field of promoting and protecting human rights through its legislation, judicial, and administrative systems. In addition, the Kingdom has taken successive executive measures that reflect the effectiveness of those laws and express a persevering political will towards everything that contributes to human well-being protection as well as to the promotion of his rights and respect for his dignity, in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. To illustrate, the vision has included many plans and programs that contribute to make the Kingdom a leading model in the world at all levels including many areas of human rights. He adds saying that: “We in the Society are proud of this progress which we consider a catalyst to achieve more developments, and a help to overcome obstacles and challenges as well as a motivation for all agencies and institutions to make more efforts so as to promote and protect human rights. He has also indicated that the Kingdom is embarking on its relentless pursuit towards the promotion and protection of human rights, and achieving sustainable development, from the inherent values of its society, and the wisdom and will of its leadership.

Besides, the Chairman of the Society has added saying that: “It is unfortunate that what we are witnessing in the world today a double standards in the field of protecting and defending human rights internationally. This matter has become an open phenomenon, as the main goal isn’t necessarily the protection of rights; rather, it depends on what they achieve from political and economic interests for those countries. Therefore, we find that some countries that claim to defend human rights in the world do not move but turn a blind eye to those flagrant violations that are committed against civilians in countries in which they have no interests. For more illustration, cities are destroyed, children and women are killed and displaced and they don’t take any action. On the other hand, we find these countries raising some cases against this or that country, leaving those major cases that represent flagrant and unprecedented violations of human rights in our contemporary world. The situation has reached the point of claiming rights that contradict common sense and divine religions and what is stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and relevant international agreements. For illustration, demanding the rights of the so-called homosexuals and making them part of their agendas and exerting pressure on countries and societies for them and promoting them despite the explicit position rejecting them in all parts of the world and from different societies and cultures.

The Chairman of the Society has stressed that on this global occasion, we recall the importance of adhering to human and ethical standards, and not to involve human rights in political agendas as well as the need to respect the religious and cultural specificities of societies and the right of peoples to decide what suits their identity and beliefs, and to refrain from imposing trends and judging others from a biased, unilateral perspective.

Finally, the Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights, Mr.Khaled bin Abdul Rahman Al-Fakhri, has concluded his speech  saying that: We always seek to contribute to preserving and empowering human rights, renouncing violence, ensuring the achievement of justice and equality, and strengthening national cohesion through continuous work in which the efforts of the state, interests, institutions and relevant authorities work together  with the individual, the family and the community to ensure the achievement of these goals, and raise awareness of the importance of respecting them and realizing the sanctity of attacking or violating them or preventing them from obtaining them.
