On Sunday evening , Dr. Mufleh Bin Rabiean Qahtani, the Chairman of the National Society for Human Rights, has received the Swedish Deputy Foreign Minister and the Ambassador of Sweden to Saudi Arabia and their accompanying delegation. During the meeting, the visiting delegation has briefed on the activities of the Society and its functions and the guest has praised the economic and social progress witnessed in the Kingdom since he has left his work as an ambassador for his country in the Kingdom in the 1800s till today as he has found a big difference in the development. Moreover, he has praised the human rights progress especially in the field of women’s empowerment and their participation in the different areas of work as well as their membership in the Shura Council and the municipal elections. Besides, they have talked about many human rights topics including the death penalty , which has been explained by the Chairman of the Society as being subjected to the provisions of Islamic law which is considered as the general law in the country and he has added saying that the application of the death penalty has many judicial safeguards. At the end of the meeting, the visiting delegation has praised the Society’s efforts in the field of spreading the human rights culture and enhancing its protection .
